PRESIDENTS LETTER

Welcome to the 45th year of the Baton Rouge Ancient Athlete Society. I am both excited and humbled to be the 45th President of this club. There are some big shoes to fill over the last several years. The presidents and boards of the past can’t be thanked enough for growing and improving the club to what it is today. Together with my board, I intend to continue to move the club forward and leave it better than it was before.

I found out about the club in 2014 and was lucky enough to be selected into the 35th rookie class when I was 30 years old. I was excited to get to play different sports year-round, but I had no idea what I was really joining. Now ten years later, the sports are fun, but they are such a small part of what really makes this club great. If you are only showing up to play your games and then heading home, you are missing out on the opportunity to build many professional and social relationships with people you probably never would know otherwise. I encourage you to volunteer to help at social events or be a captain or a commissioner of a sport. You will get so much more out of the club if you are willing to put more in.

Get your family involved. They are always welcome to come out and watch you show your skills. In addition to the family nights at the end of each season, we will have many social events that they are welcome to attend including the LSU tailgate, steaks at Fred’s and the Christmas party. I also highly recommend participating in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. It’s a great day spent walking the route with your brothers and once you’ve done it, you’ll be hooked I promise.

We will continue to support our charitable organization of BRAAStrong as we understand that there will always be members of our BRAAS community in need. Several events throughout the year will help to fund this as well as the Neil Juneau Memorial Fund for Youth Activities which helps to support underprivileged children who do not have the means to participate in youth activities.

The BRAAS Store through Red Stick Sports will continue this year. If you like those sweet new colors, look for the link to the store in your emails. We will run several different versions throughout the year, and if you have a suggestion for something you’d like to see feel free to reach out to me.

Please remember that all the board members spend time and energy away from their families to attempt to ensure you have the best possible experience within the club. If you have an issue or a complaint, the best way to be heard is by reaching out with a solution. We welcome new ideas and we understand that as the club changes, so does the way certain aspects will need to be run.

If any of you need anything BRAAS related or otherwise, please do not hesitate to reach out. This club offers a wealth of resources in so many different fields and so many members willing to help. My predecessor Craig Ourso #44 always says “This is the best club in Baton Rouge” and I believe that sums it up well.

READ YOUR EMAILS! DBAD!

Respectfully,

Brett May
