OPEN:

Mahtook (46) – W Arcement (57)

Team Mahtook – No write up!  Sad!  Thankfully we have a doozy from Team W Arcement…

Team W Arcement – A heavyweight bout between two juggernauts dooking it out for 3rd to last place in the standings took place late Sunday afternoon. Noone told these stallions that essentially nothing was on the line as both teams showed up foaming from the mouth, ready to skyrocket to the high 40’s in points scored. Unfortunately we were greeted with temperatures in the high 90’s in the gym, which… if you ask both teams was SOLELY the reason for subpar play. Neither of these squads has been accused of breaking scoring records this season or playing consistent basketball but the game had to be played. Team Mahtookless (TMless) raced out to a commanding 15 to 12 lead in the 1st period. Team Arcement (TA) took the bold strategy of assigning the scoring duties to start the game to everyone other than Booboo and Will. Get buckets Will was screaming to his team GEEEEET BUCKEEETS. Solid play from Myles, Treg and Kish in the 1st kept it close. The gameplan quickly shifted in 2nd with Will, Booboo and The Other Walker scoring 19 points to take a commanding 31 to 29 lead. Someone showed up around halftime to turn on the A/C and you could see the purple hue on peoples faces subsiding before the impending heat stroke. Team Mahtookless went man after the intermission and chose to put a rookie on The Other Walker which didn’t go well for them… quickly destroying the rookie in the post. Roncancio could be heard saying “Walker didn’t play like this when Wilson put it in his ass a couple weeks ago” and he aint wrong. Booboo and Walker scored all 18 points to stretch the lead to 49-39 after the 3rd. With such an insurmountable lead, TA spread it out and milked the clock away, securing a 57 to 48 victory. Leaving the floor defeated, Deaton could be heard saying “if ya’ll would just do what I fucking say and run what I say, I will lead you to the promise land”. The over/under on Team Warcements projected wins is getting closer by the week. 45 is going to owe Myles some cash very, very soon.

Davenport (56) – Wall (54)

Team Davenport –  In a close game Team Davenport’s league leading scoring defense ran into its toughest test yet. Sumner single handedly almost ruined our perfect record by leading his team with 14 points. Michael’s big brother Scott also had 10 points. I cannot wait for Ted’s re-rank this week. Michael has one hand shoving Scott into the legends league and the other around the coveted title “good sumner”. Reigns don’t last forever, Scott.

I could talk about how Nelson is really good at basketball and how Bickham is a dawg defensively and Pecue is a sniper from the corner and Wes is holding the team together with his 6’8 wingspan, but I really just want everyone to know that I blocked Scott Sumners shot. Sure, he was probably fouled and off balance, but it still happened.

Team Wall – A funky game from Team Wall this week as we never really caught our rhythm but still almost took down undefeated Davenport. While missing 2nd-round pick Matt Desselle, The Good at Sports Sumner missed the first quarter and captain I’ll Sponsor That fell into some early foul trouble, leading to some unique line-ups. Still, we managed to take a 6-point lead into halftime on the strength of 5 made threes in the second quarter.

Things fell apart in the third, when every member of Team Davenport made at least one shot, outscoring us 18-8 and giving us a four-point hole to climb out of. Still, the game was back and forth in the final frame, but somehow the team that leads the league in fouls wasn’t called for one in the entire fourth quarter, an improvement in defensive discipline that some might call “physically impossible,” and Team Davenport wisely used that advantage to tackle Team Wall’s top 2 players on multiple occasions, including “guiding” the Good at Sports Sumner out of bounds while attempting the game winning shot.

Despite finishing about 15 points below our season average, Team Wall still managed to post four double-digit scorers on the back of some strong outside shooting (Richard, Trouiller, and both Sumners all hit at least two threes). Team Wall falls to 0-3 in Gray shirts and 2-0 in Purple. Tune in next week at 7pm for the Sumner Bowl, where Big Ted finally only has to sit through one game instead of four (Big Ted requests the schedule makers run the final plans through him from now on).

Hebert (70) – Alexander (58)

No write up from either.  Wow!  Where is Dornier when you need him?

Brantley (58) – Tuqan (87)

Team Brantley –  That was a good ole fashion ass whooping.  I haven’t felt that beat down since my highschool GF tried to give me a dry handjob with no completion.  Team Haf came out in a 2-3 Zone.  Randy and I were very excited about that until we realized that our shots were not falling like they normally do.  Team chemistry was a little rough with all of us playing together for the first time.  Matt Pearce fought through his bicycle injury to give us some solid minutes. Carter stepped up and played tough defense and hit some big threes to try to keep it close for us.  Chatelain brought his son who got to hear me F bomb the basketball goal for my shots not falling.  Sorry not sorry.  As our shooting percentage was plummeting, Haf’s and Cory Ferrara’s percentage was sky rocketing.  Those to MFer’s could not miss.  I think they had over sixty points combined.  We need to find our flow as a team and definitely need to figure out how to play defense with all these teams hanging 80 pts on us.  The most fun I had was after our game listening to Jmart (Team Brantley) yelling at Cal Joy who was in the middle of his game.  I love the head games Jmart.

Team Tuqan – No write up – from the Commish no less!  Wow!

Sumner (63) – Aillet (68)

Team Sumner – Took another L this week. Some big foul discrepancies in this one with a 9/0 first half foul count. Hung in there despite the freethrows but they pulled it out beating us by 5.

Team Aillet – Closely contested game between two evenly matched teams, there was plenty of action both on and off the court, with numerous lead changes throughout. Despite the back-and-forth nature of the game, Team Aillet managed to pull away late and secure the victory against Team Sumner. Team Aillet is still seeking the elusive first full game with all their roster pieces playing together.

Coogan (62) – P Arcement (52)

Team Coogan – Arcement vs Coogan did not feature the #1 picks from either side. TA picked up booboo and TC picked up butcher. The game started with TA jumping out to a 7-0 lead with TC closing the gap quickly and the game turned into one-way traffic with TC blowing the doors off in the second quarter. TA had no answer for Lasseigne where he had a season high 13 getting to the rim and shooting lights out. Tim George was deadly behind the arc making four three pointers against a 2-3 zone that Jim Boeheim would’ve been embarrassed to watch. Anderson was big on the boards and playing good defense while dropping 9 points. Mayers had 4 points and a great defensive effort before suffering a minor injury. Coogan finished with 19 man handling Jenny on both sides of the floor. Jenny resorted to fouling and yelling about every play up and down the court. If you ever been to volleyball finals night once he’s eliminated (which is usually early on) you have an idea of what I’m talking about.  Anyways, the game was a mismatch on paper and even worse when we played it out.  Can anyone blame Rookie Salmon for “vacationing” the same week he has to play the Big Bopper Coogan?  I hope he bought Jenny a nice gift from where ever he went to make up for hanging him out to dry against the defending overall MVP.  This team may have to be collectively sent to Legends next year.  Now on to next week vs aillet…is anyone playing defense against this guy? Faircloth looked at the schedule and had no interest in this game at first glance and still doesn’t. Said it wasn’t worth flying in for them. We shall see what happens.

Team P Arcement – No write up (no surprise there)

LEGENDS:

Smith (25) – Warde (27)

Team Smith – In a battle of winless teams, team smith struggled the most. Prepping for a winless regular season, team smith missed free throws and open shots with almost purposeful precision. See y’all next week 🙂

Warde – Well… this game was everybit what we expected coming off the holiday break. UGLY! Warde put up one of the worst airball free throws ever seen in basketball. Smith was fouled on a three point attempt in the final seconds and went to the line to potentially win the game , but it was not meant to be. Neither team was able to get to 30 points, but Team Warde squeaked out a 2 point win for the first win of the season.

Dornier (24) – Goscha (32)

Team Dornier –  Even with out the Diesel, Team Goscha started off strong taking an early 8-0 lead — we fought back to make it 8-5 after the first quarter — let’s just say shooting was not the best in this game, the rust definitely showed — it was still a fairly physical game and TG was led by Chris Boyce who hit key threes/shots throughout the game — our guys battled and kudos to the effort — Team Goshca is definitely the team to beat going into the 2nd half of the season — look forward to next game

Team Goscha – Defense defense defense !

That was the Goscha team mantra this week . With the Big Diesel  out this week donating to the Vegas Strip we had a big void to fill playing the co – leaders of our league but our guys played a suffocating 2-3 match up zone that stymied the high scoring  Dornier group. Both teams played hard and finished well below their scoring averages with  a competitive game throughout .

With a smaller lineup team Goscha scored just enough thru Boyce , Esposito , and Ledoux to maintain the early lead . Landry and Babin had their usual stellar contributions on both ends of the floor .

With so many ball handlers on the squad it’s tough to force turnovers against this team and Lato and company took great care of the ball . Ledoux stepped up in the middle to challenge Talley who along with Dornier put up a great fight .

As captain for the only game of my career – Frugé  stands at 1-0 and is now retired from captainship .

Lambert (26) – Ourso (39)

Team Lambert – No write up – TL surely featured 12 foot jumpers curling around a screen.

Team Ourso – Defense, defense and more defense for Team Ourso.

It also helped that Team Lambert struggled to put the ball in the basket after the holiday layoff.  Was it our defense or too much partying over the holidays for Team Lambert.
There was only one highlight in the game and that was when Scott Reitzel hit a longer than half court (he says 3/4 court) shot at the buzzer of the 3rd quarter.  I mean just after the buzzer of the 3rd quarter.  So maybe that is not a highlight, but it was the most exciting thing that happened in the game.

Valenti (34) – Tate (38)

Team Valenti – It was another hard loss for team valenti.   The end

  • Editors note – the above is a real write up submitted by a captain / board member

Team Tate – After a sluggish offensive stretch following the Christmas and New Year’s break, Team Tate shook off the rust to secure a hard-fought victory over Team Valenti in a Legends League basketball showdown.

The team leaned heavily on our leader, Kevin Tate, who poured in 20 points and was an energizer bunny keeping the offense afloat during key stretches. Neal added 9 with some timely buckets to complement Tate’s scoring. While the offense struggled tonight, Team Tate’s rock-solid defense kept us in the game, forcing tough shots and denying easy baskets.   Trailing by one with just 30 seconds left on the clock, Tejas delivered the play of the game, calmly sinking a clutch three-pointer that electrified the bench. Moments later, Steve Davis sealed the deal with 2 free throws, ensuring the victory.

Team Valenti battled all night, with Ryan Smith leading their effort with 13 points and Captain Dom chipping in 8.  But Team Tate’s resilience and late-game execution proved to be the difference.

The win wasn’t just celebrated on the court; six members of Team Tate, led by Hood & Dugas, carried the energy to the post-game watering hole, where the team basked in their first win of the new year.
