OPEN

Hebert (59) – P Arcement (57)

P Arcement:  Tough loss for us in this one. In control for 3 quarters holding onto roughy a 10 point lead most of the way. We shared the ball well getting open looks and everyone contributing scoring. Played great defense keeping Hebert and Wilson in check for most of the game. Lead was 10 going into the 4th and then we get outscored 23-11 in the final quarter to lose by 2. Tie game with under a minute left and we foul giving Wells 2 FTs to go up 2. Coming down got an open look for the rookie Salmon at the top of the key for a game winning 3 and it just didn’t fall for us. Another brutal 4th quarter but maybe the best we’ve played as a team for the first 30 minutes. Some foul trouble hurt us on defense late but still should’ve been able to hold on.

Davenport (53) – Tuqan (43)

Davenport:    Team Davenport holds the high flying Team Haf to 43 points, 30 below their season average.

Bickham is an absolute doooog and the tip of the spear defensively with Nelson Pecue and Blakeman behind him wearing down opposing shooters.

Mossholder and McKenzie were the dominant front-court in this game combining for 19 pts in the paint, 5 blocks and 33 rebounds (Team Haf only had 37 rebounds as a team).

Next week will be the game for the 1 seed against Team Alexander in a competition to see who can beg for the most calls

W Arcement (47) – Alexander (57)

Secretary’s Recap – Team WA was shorthanded Sunday night and put up a good fight but with TA picking up Coogan’s defensive specialist Alex Anderson, Scott & Co were too much.

Aillet (67) – Wall (74)

Wall:  Watch out, Haf. Jacob Triche is coming for the Volume Three Point Shooter crown.

It was another balanced scoring week from Team Wall, as we had four players in double-digits for the 6th time in our nine games. TW got off to a hot start, jumping up to a 13-3 lead in the first few minutes of the game and holding a 22-13 lead at the end of the first. TA managed to win the second quarter 18-13 to make the game 34-31 at the half before losing the final two quarters by two points each.

The real story of this game was the two-way dominance of Captain I’ll Sponsor That Wall and Matt Mad Man Desselle. Wall owned the paint, scoring 27 points on nothing but layups and free throws while discouraging TA from coming anywhere close to the basket on the other end, and Desselle hit huge threes while chasing TA’s point guard all over the court for 40 minutes. TW also got huge buckets from rookie Chase Richard and highlights plays on both ends of the court from The Good at Sports Sumner (The Good Sumner played, too, but without the motivation of Big Ted (DNP – Rest) looking disappointed on the sideline, his only real contribution was to the game plan).

The REAL real story of the game is that apparently if you say “we’ll make someone besides Aillet and Zack beat us,” Jacob Triche will take that extremely personally and morph into prime Ray Allen. Triche almost doubled his three pointer total on the season against us, hitting eight out of like eleven attempts, including a few nasty off-the-dribble pull-ups, and scored as many points as their second-and-third-highest scorers combined (28).

Team Wall finally breaks their winless streak in the gray shirts! We’re now 5-0 in purple and 1-3 in gray. Also, can’t help but notice that Team Coogan, who had a lot to say about how we let them back in the game last week, blew a big lead in the fourth quarter to secure a loss. We guess not everyone is made to be clutch.

Happy Super Bowl Bye Week everybody! Hope both teams lose but that all your prop bets hit.

Mahtook (64) – Coogan (61)

Coogan:  Team Mahtook pulled out all the stops and made a significant upgrade in picking up West for Albin before their showdown with Team Coogan. A rule must be put in place for a team not to be able to improve this much when subbing. Seems there’s already a changing of the guard at the top and west has only played 6 games in BRAAS.

Anyways, the game started off with TC opening up to a 16 point lead which was cut to 5 by halftime. Mahtook and west combined for 40 points with shooting and great penetration. Brandon Deaton offered nothing offensively and was a liability on defense allowing Coogan to go for 24 points. Booboo subbing for Faircloth contributed 17 points, Marcus 11 points, and Anderson 6. TC is ready for their #1 pick to come back for the final game and the playoffs. A bye in the first round is out of the question for TC at this point, but we are hoping for a scenario where we can play Team Wall opening weekend and we can coast into championship weekend.

Before we get to the playoffs TC has to play arguably the worst BRAAS basketball team in the clubs 44 year history. A captain who thinks he’s Michael Jackson, a guy who can’t even ride a bicycle without falling off (21-22 rookie of the year and I guess that’s gonna be it for him), a loud mouth imbecile, and then Randy. This poor bastard has to drive all the way to Denham Springs to play with this group of guys and pretend he’s enjoying himself. From top to bottom they are absolutely horrible with a -131 point differential. TB will play this game like it’s game seven of the NBA finals seeing how they have nothing else to play for and have the 12th seed wrapped up nicely. This game will be over quickly and TC is heading to the playoff 5-5 looking to make a big run.

Brantley (50) – Sumner (55)

Secretary’s Recap:  No clue what happened here other than Sumner winning and its do or die for Team Brantley vs Team Coogan in Week 10.

LEGENDS:

Smith (34) – Goscha (70)

Goscha:  From the moment Diesel arrived in the parking lot he knew that this was going to be a great night. Team Goscha star Chris Boyce seeing Captain Diesel trying to get all of the supplies into the gym came over and offered to carry the diesel sack; ball sack and Boyce noted the irony of the diesel ball sack being blue…..”My wife is in week three of recovering from a hysterectomy Boyce,” Diesel noted as he thought about the past 3 weeks of pure torture. This thought passed quickly to Diesel thinking of how he misses Clint Smith being on his team from a year ago and the tremendous challenge that Clint Smith would lay in front of Team Goscha.

Once in the gym, Boyce and Diesel were happy to see Smith waving with his single middle finger, out of time out and fully reinstated to play this week. Early on Smith (8 points) and Bueche (9 points) were hitting enough shots to keep the contest close but with only five players present vs Team Goscha’s full squad of 8 the legs of Team Smith got tired fairly quickly. Jim Young and Les Callender each chipped in (8 points) for team Smith and they played much better than the final score might indicate.  At full strength Team Smith will be a juggernaut and nobody should take them lightly in the playoffs.

Team Goscha had four players score in double figures. Chris Boyce led all scorers with 21 points, Goscha chipped in a quiet 12 points, Ledoux added to his incredible season with 11 and Lato blasted back from a cold spell with 11 of his own. Fruge got the start and didn’t disappoint with 4 points, Esposito added 5 points and controlled the point very well, while Jason Landry made two baskets on just two attempts. Meaning all of team Goscha scored but one; the Babin effect was millimeters away from double digits on his 12 shots in the fourth quarter. He was clearly shaken after the Diesel tackled him on a lay-up. The entire story is Diesel got a brotherly shove from Bueche into Babin, but the foul was actually called on diesel. Clint Smith proclaimed it was the first time in his BRAAS career that a horrible call was made in favor of his team.

Walkon’s brought forth some of the finer parts of the club. Scotty Fruge graciously bought the diesel 1-1/2 pitches of Bud heavy (They ran out of Budweiser) along with a host of food dishes. Next thing you know here comes a slew of open players and their kids. The two kids in particular that caught Diesel’s attention were Nelson and Lila. Son and daughter of the first-place team Davenport and captain Nelson. Young Nelson and sister Lila had matching Mallard duck outfits which is always a nice touch from Mom as she gets the kids all buttoned up to go watch dad whoop Team Haf by 10 points.  Young Nelson spotted a plate of wings in front of Diesel and noted his desire to have 1, 2, 3 and some of that sauce or the entire bowl of ranch sauce and some fries. The Kid ate the wings like he was mad at them and upon wrapping up this treat he proceeded to beat up Tommy Lato. While the young Nelson is on top of Lato, Lila proceeds to clean up any meat her brother might have missed on the wings, licks the ranch dressing bowl clean and finds herself a slider. All of this action is going on while Ryan Mockler and the diesel start to strategize about Thursday’s open forum meeting on Thursday. Full disclosure Ryan explains that the Bud Heavy tap will not run out but rather will runneth over this Thursday. Diesel moves from I don’t think I can make it to I don’t think I can miss it. In addition, Diesel offers to pay for Legends score keepers at a price of $100 per week. Diesel also believes we need to find a new watering hole after basketball games because we could really bless a local restaurant that appreciates us and our patronage. Ryan is still my personal favorite to be rookie of the year. He and I both agree that the open draft should happen first. If you aren’t picked in the top 80 you are then automatically moved down to the B-League. No more legends stuff but rather A and B league. He’s 31 and ready to be in the B league. Basketball wasn’t his sport, but he longed to play even if the minutes were in the B league.

Warde (26) – Valenti (38)

Dornier (56) – Ourso (33)

Lambert (20) – Tate (30)

Team Tate Grinds Out a “Defensive Masterpiece” (Or Maybe Just an Ugly Win) Over Team Lambert, 30-20

Some say defense wins championships. Others say bad offense makes for great defense. After this game, we’re leaning toward the latter. In what can only be described as a basketball game in the most technical sense, Team Tate clawed their way to a 30-20 victory over Team Lambert in a contest that featured more missed shots than a middle school dance.

Leading the offensive onslaught (and we use that term very loosely) was Steve Davis, who poured in 11 points—roughly a third of the team’s total output. Macha chipped in a hard-fought 8, proving that persistence (and maybe a little luck) pays off. Meanwhile, Hood and Roman did the dirty work down low, keeping Lambert’s big men, Barbay and Levesque, to a combined two points.  Either that’s elite post defense, or someone put a lid on the basket. We’ll let the historians decide.

On the other side, Team Lambert’s offense was equally—let’s call it economical—with Mulkey and Lambert leading the way with 6 points each. While they kept it close for most of the game, the battle ultimately went to the squad that missed slightly less.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t artistic. But a win is a win, and Team Tate will take it.   Up next, a rematch with Team Dornier.
